I wanted to tell you about mobile applications at the district that provide each campus (Cypress, Fullerton, and SCE) with the ability for students and faculty to view the class schedule, employee directory, grades, campus map, and campus news. I’m happy to announce that the new mobile applications for Cypress, Fullerton, and School of Continuing Education have been submitted to the Android Market, Apple’s App Store, and Blackberry’s App World. As of September 1, 2011 the applications will be available in the Android Market and the App Store (you can use iTunes to download and install the apps on your iPad or iPhone). We are working with RIM to get the applications in Blackberry's App World as soon as possible.
So what is in the applications? The features that are in the applications are campus news for each of the campuses, student grades, a daily schedule, the class schedule, a campus map, staff directory, and transit information.
The staff directory allows you to search for staff by first name, last name, first name and last name, last name and first name. In addition to a name query, you can use the following search operators:
dept: - searches by department
title: - searches by title
office: - searches by office
For example, in the search box type, “title: it project”. This would display all staff that have a title that starts with “IT Project”. Other search queries can be achieved by adding the ‘@’ to a staff members last name. A query like “rippe@” or “brippe@” would display my contact information. The query would match my e-mail address, “brippe@nocccd.edu”.
More features include adding contact information to your phone’s contact list can easily be done by clicking the “Add to Contacts” button at the bottom of each entry. Users can call or e-mail a contact by clicking on the entry’s phone number or e-mail address.

Finally, the transit feature uses the student’s current geolocation and time to display routes to their associated institution. A Fullerton College student physically located at CSUF and using the transit feature at 6:00 PM would receive the following information:
Other features like the class schedule and grades provide valuable information to our students and more importantly create a foundation for future expansion of services and content to be delivered through mobile devices. We're excited to offer the institutions these FREE applications and hope that this is the start of some really cool and helpful applications for our students.
