Emailing your whole class just got a little easier

We've made an improvement to the Faculty Dashboard channel so that it will use the portal's built-in email capabilities to send emails when you click the email envelope icon for one of your classes. This will open a new window in which you can compose your message to your class.

This feature will use your preferred email address as indicated in WebStar. If your preferred address is your work email, that's the address students will reply to. If it's your home email, your students will reply to your home email address. If you don't have an email address recorded in WebStar, you will need to provide one. To add or change your preferred email address, log into myGateway, click on the Employee tab, then click on the Update E-mail Addresses link in the Personal Information channel.

Note: If you teach a large class, you may find that Internet Explorer cuts off some of the email addresses. This is a problem with the Internet Explorer web browser; it cannot handle very long links. If you teach such a class, you may consider using the Mozilla Firefox web browser as an alternative.

If you teach a very large class (large lecture, or open lab), there is currently a bug in the Faculty Dashboard channel that may prevent anything from displaying in that channel at all.

If this is the case for you, click the edit icon for the channel (the small pencil in the upper-right part of the channel). Uncheck "Email your class". Click Apply. Then click Back.

All your classes will now display, but the email link (which causes the bug for large classes) will not be available.
